About the Role
Part-Time Bookkeeper | Accountancy Practice
Central Hull • Ideally 20–25 hours per week • Flexible arrangements considered
About the company
Our client is a growing accountancy practice in central Hull, providing outsourced accounting support to SME businesses across Yorkshire. Its services connect the detail of everyday bookkeeping with the bigger financial picture, keeping client records organised and ready for management and annual accounts preparation.
The practice has retained its family-orientated feel while experiencing significant growth. As demand for its services increases, it is looking for an experienced, hands-on bookkeeper to support the existing team and take ownership of a varied client portfolio. This is an opportunity to put your practical expertise to work in a growing practice, with a part-time commitment and scope to discuss a working pattern that suits both you and the business.
The role
You will help turn day-to-day transactions into clear, dependable client records, bringing bookkeeping work to the point where management and annual accounts can be prepared. The role will suit someone who enjoys taking responsibility for the detail and is comfortable moving between client work and practical support for the wider team.
- Manage the bookkeeping for a portfolio of SME clients, keeping their financial records accurate, organised and up to date.
- Prepare VAT returns and post journals, including entries for fixed assets, prepayments and accruals, with a careful eye for completeness and accuracy.
- Bring client records to the stage required for management and annual accounts preparation, providing a clear foundation for the next stage of work.
- Support Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) work where your knowledge and experience allow.
- Assist with client onboarding and general administration, combining ownership of your client work with a willingness to support the team where needed.
About you
You will be AAT part-qualified, AAT qualified or qualified by experience, with practical bookkeeping expertise and the confidence to get started with minimal training. Just as importantly, you will bring an organised, analytical approach, strong communication skills and a genuine attention to detail.
- Hands-on bookkeeping experience and the ability to take responsibility for client records with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Strong working knowledge of Xero and experience preparing VAT returns.
- Confidence posting journals and preparing records for accounts production, including fixed assets, prepayments and accruals.
- CIS knowledge would be particularly welcome, although it is not essential.
- Familiarity with Sage would be useful; experience with QuickBooks and FreeAgent would be an additional advantage.
- A practical, flexible approach: happy to balance client bookkeeping with onboarding and administrative support.
Working arrangements
The preferred commitment is 20–25 hours per week, with alternative part-time patterns open for discussion. Remote working may also be considered, depending on your experience and the needs of the role.
Qualified accountants looking for a part-time opportunity are also welcome to enquire, provided they enjoy hands-on bookkeeping and are happy to make it a central part of their role.
