The Company

Our client, based in Kingston upon Hull, is part of a global market-leading manufacturing group supplying products across the food, consumer, agricultural, logistics, and environmental sectors. Operating within a fast-paced and dynamic environment, the business is highly acquisitive and driven by ambitious strategic growth plans.

As the Hull finance function continues to evolve, an opportunity has arisen for a high-calibre Senior Management Accountant to support the Financial Controller. This role combines technical excellence with commercial insight, providing accurate monthly reporting alongside value-adding operational analysis to the Executive Management Team.

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership position with broad exposure across financial reporting, operational performance, and process improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing a small finance team (Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger, and Finance Apprentice).
  • Ownership of the monthly management accounts process, including: Profit & Loss Fixed Asset Register Capex review and Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Preparation and review of the monthly reporting pack, including detailed commentary on performance.
  • Delivering timely and accurate financial data to support weekly reporting and monthly management accounts.
  • Producing robust balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, including intercompany trading and funding balances.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to streamline systems, reduce manual processes, and enhance the quality of financial insight available for decision-making.
  • Reviewing and challenging forecasts to ensure robustness and accuracy.
  • Delivering insightful variance analysis (actual vs. budget/forecast) across weekly and monthly reporting cycles. Supporting the annual budgeting and planning process.

Candidate Profile

You will be a newly, nearly, or fully qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, or ACCA) with strong industry-based management accounting experience. Confident and commercially aware, you will be able to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insight for non-finance stakeholders.

You will demonstrate:

Strong analytical and reporting capability, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines. The confidence to influence and challenge constructively at all levels of the business. A proactive mindset with a continuous improvement focus.

Previous Manufacturing sector experience would be advantageous, though not essential.
