Based in Kingston upon Hull, our client is an innovative and growing design and manufacturing organisation with strong links to the construction industry. Due to continued expansion, the business is seeking to appoint a capable Finance Assistant.
About the role
Reporting to the Finance Manager and working within a small, dedicated finance team, the Finance Assistant will support a broad range of activities including payroll, sales invoicing and general accounting.
Key responsibilities
- Process weekly and monthly payrolls, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
- Prepare sales invoices in a timely manner and maintain customer records on the company system.
- Manage credit control activities, including reporting to management and escalating issues where required.
- Maintain daily cashbooks and produce debtor reporting.
- Manage petty cash transactions and complete associated reconciliations.
- Process employee expenses, including reconciliation of company credit card accounts.
- Support monthly stocktakes and assist with stock valuations.
- Assist with statutory returns (e.g., P11Ds and ONS surveys).
- Post journals as required.
- Reconcile monthly healthcare invoices.
- Prepare audit documentation for the annual audit, ensuring records are complete and appropriately referenced.
- Provide cover for the purchase ledger function as required.
- Undertake ad hoc duties to support the wider needs of the business.
Candidate profile
You will be an experienced accounts clerk with proven payroll and general accounting experience, ideally gained within a similar fast-paced environment. You will have a solid understanding of core accounting processes and strong spreadsheet skills, particularly in Excel. While the role has a focus on payroll and sales ledger activities, it also offers the opportunity to broaden your accounting knowledge within a supportive team.
Key skills and attributes
- AAT (or equivalent) and relevant payroll/general accounts experience.
- Previous experience in a similar finance support role.
- Strong technical knowledge across payroll and day-to-day accounting processes.
- Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent IT skills, including strong working knowledge of Excel.
