Management Accountant

An established and successful business is looking to appoint an ambitious developing Accountant to join its finance team. This opportunity is ideally suited to someone who is part-qualified CIMA or ACCA, or AAT qualified, and ready to take the next step in their accounting career. The business is open to candidates who may not yet have the full technical experience but can demonstrate strong accounting foundations, curiosity, commitment and the potential to grow into a broader management accounts role.

Role Overview

Working as part of a busy and supportive finance team, the successful candidate will assist with the preparation of weekly and periodic management accounts, complete key reconciliations and provide analysis that helps the business understand financial performance. The role would suit someone with good core accounting knowledge, strong attention to detail and a genuine desire to develop their technical, commercial and management reporting capability over time.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of weekly and periodic management accounts in line with agreed reporting deadlines.
• Complete weekly sales reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
• Calculate and reconcile salaries, commissions and related payroll information.
• Support variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior year, helping to highlight key movements and trends.
• Prepare clear commentary and supporting schedules to help explain financial performance.
• Produce periodic KPIs and management reporting packs for review by senior stakeholders.
• Complete accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain and take responsibility for the fixed asset register.
• Manage intercompany reconciliations and resolve any differences promptly.
• Support the preparation of VAT and CIS reconciliations and returns.
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting policies, standards and internal company procedures.
• Assist with year-end accounts preparation and support statutory reporting requirements where required.
• Prepare audit lead schedules and liaise with auditors as required.
• Provide ad hoc management and statutory reporting support as required.

Candidate Profile

The company is seeking a motivated, detail-focused and development-minded finance professional who is either part-qualified CIMA/ACCA or AAT qualified and keen to progress. You may already have some exposure to management accounts, reconciliations, payroll, VAT or month-end reporting, but the most important attributes will be your accounting aptitude, accuracy, willingness to learn and ability to take on increasing responsibility as your confidence and experience grow.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

• Part-qualified CIMA/ACCA, AAT qualified, or actively progressing through a recognised accounting qualification.
• Previous finance or accounts experience, ideally with exposure to reconciliations, month-end routines, reporting packs or management accounts support.
• Strong potential to develop technically and commercially within a hands-on finance environment.
• Excellent attention to detail, with a strong focus on quality and accuracy.
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
• Clear, professional communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
• A positive, proactive approach with a willingness to learn, improve processes and take on increasing responsibility over time.
